Description: | 115 acres; located in the Florida Keys 7.7 km (4.8 mi) SW of Missouri Key, 2.6 km (1.6 mi) SE of Mangrove Key; the name recognizes the fact that the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America have managed and used the island for many years. |
History: | This feature was once the most westerly of three islands that were known collectively as Spanish Harbor Keys. As a result of landfill efforts, this island and the two others have become one landmass. In June 2010 the BGN approved a proposal to render this feature and name historical and to apply the new name Scout Key to the entire landmass. |
